REPEAT MEDICATION
Heart disease
A three month health assessment for heart disease patients is essential for the following reasons:
- Your pet's heart disease may change frequently during the course of their life necessitating adding or removing certain medications. It is impossible to know whether this is required without examining your pet.
- The dose requirements for your pet may change during the course of their life - regular health assessment including weight, body condition, recent history and blood analysis is essential to assess this.
- Dogs and cats with heart disease are often older animals and hence are more at risk of other problems such as arthritis, heart disease, and cancer. A 3-monthly check can identify problems in their early stages which will maximise our chance of treatment success.
- Fluid can build up on the lungs which requires auscultation with a stethoscope to detect.
- Arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) can develop at any time during the course of heart disease.
- Blood pressure can change by going too high or too low and signs of this can be detected during examination and clinical history taking.
- Remember your pet cannot always communicate when something is wrong - a three month check is the opportunity for us to detect any changes or problems.
