REPEAT MEDICATION
Cushing's disease
A three month health assessment for Cushing's disease patients is essential for the following reasons:
- Careful and regular monitoring of Cushing's disease is essential to get good control of the disease and avoid unwanted side effects.
- Often side effects of the medication are not obvious without examination, auscultation of the chest and blood tests.
- Dogs with Cushing's can frequently develop other conditions such as diabetes, skin and ear disease, liver and kidney disease, eye disease, urinary tract infections, and high blood pressure and it is vital to identify these cases early.
- We often find pets with skin disease have undiagnosed ear and skin infections which are often not easy for owners to identify and may not be affecting your pet's behaviour.
- If the medication is partially effective or ineffective, we can look at other options to control the problem.
- The manufacturer of Vetoryl/Trilostane recommend close monitoring with blood assessment of dogs every three months.
- Remember your pet cannot always communicate when something is wrong - a three monthly check is the opportunity for us to detect any changes or problems.
