REPEAT MEDICATION
Arthritis
A three month health assessment for arthritis patients is essential for the following reasons:
- Arthritis management involves many different types of treatment. The treatment plan evolves with the different stages of the disease.
- Leaving patients longer than three months before assessment may risk a pet being in pain longer than required - they can't always tell us that they are ill or in pain.
- Your pet's body weight may fluctuate, necessitating small changes to doses.
- Often medications are added or taken away based on the current state of your pet's arthritis. An assessment with a vet is vital to accurately do this.
- Arthritis management is a rapidly changing field - often there are new treatments that become available and can be applied to appropriate cases.
- Many medications have potential side effects which are important to check for regularly and, in some situations, prevent them.
- Some medications can make unrelated diseases worse, especially if it is a new problem, so a regular health assessment can highlight problems earlier.
- Pets are good at hiding symptoms so we often can't tell if they are uncomfortable or in pain, so a physical examination is often necessary.
